NatWest bank wouldn’t wire dying woman’s cash for treatment

A TERMINALLY-ILL grandmother has vowed to close her account with NatWest after the bank refused to wire money to pay for her cancer treatment.

Dorothy Southernwood, of Dalton, flew to a specialist German clinic on August 14 for cutting-edge treatment to prolong her life. But her NatWest branch on John William Street refused to relax its security policy and transfer money to the clinic.

And the bank, which advertises “helpful banking”, froze Mrs Southernwood’s account when the family tried in desperation to withdraw cash to pay the £27,000 bill.
